Wakatobi Resort in Indonesia

Wakatobi Resort is widely considered to be one of the world’s premier snorkeling destinations, as well as one of Indonesia’s most sought-after nature resorts. Built and operated in an ecologically conscious manner, Wakatobi’s spectacular natural beach is surrounded by miles of vibrant, unspoiled and protected coral reefs. The resort is comprised of a mix of 26 exquisite seaside villas and bungalows scattered about lush landscape, creating a tranquil refuge for those seeking a unique combination of “barefoot luxury” and exceptional snorkeling. The resort maintains a four-to-one staff to guest ratio to ensure the highest level of personal service, and provides direct charter flights from Bali.

Wakatobi Resort offers three types of accommodation – Wakatobi Villas, Ocean Bungalows and Palm Bungalows. All of the accommodations have their own balcony as well as two lounge chairs for sun tanning and reading outdoors. Some also have a hammock between trees in front. Each room has a desk with internet access, a mini-bar, and much more. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning as well as ceiling fans.

Wakatobi Villas
For those seeking the best – these are Wakatobi Resort’s nicest accommodations. Located on the northern end of the resort beach and perched on small ledge just above the beach, Wakatobi Villas offer unobstructed views over the ocean and sunset, even from the bathrooms. Each villa is classically designed and constructed of earthy materials such as wood and sandstone. They are more spacious than any of the other accommodations and are decorated for ultimate comfort and relaxation.

Ocean Bungalows
Wakatobi’s Ocean Bungalows are located directly on the beach. See the fish jump, hear the gentle waves and listen to the birds – all while seated on the balcony or in one of the comfortable lounge chairs in front of your bungalow. They all have huge front porches with comfortable lounge beds/cushions and stunning views. They also have indoor bathrooms and huge Asian spa-style outdoor showers.

Palm Bungalows
These very comfortable bungalows are located slightly behind and in-between the front-row Ocean Bungalows amidst beautiful palm trees and other tropical plants.

The Spa at Wakatobi Resort offers an extensive range of treatments, including Balinese massage, aromatherapy, facials, scrubs, manicures and pedicures. All Wakatobi’s oils are natural virgin coconut and virgin olive oil based, with the choice of your favourite essence to enhance your treatment.

Snorkeling at Wakatobi Resort
Wakatobi Resort is an ideal place for snorkelers. The House Reef offers convenient snorkeling with healthy corals, seagrass meadows and myriad marine creatures while numerous dive sites visited by Wakatobi’s day boats have exquisite shallows – a snorkeler’s paradise. Snorkelers at Wakatobi Resort receive the same level of support as scuba divers. All of the resort’s dive sites are rated for suitability for snorkeling based on the reef topography. Snorkelers who join the morning and afternoon boat excursions are accompanied by a professional snorkel guide who is versed in the marine life found on Wakatobi’s reefs. Snorkeling equipment as well as camera and video systems are handled by the resort’s team and will already be on the boat when you step aboard. Towels, snacks and camera assistance are also provided and the boat crew constantly monitors snorkelers while they are in the water.

Wakatobi Resort’s House Reef
Wakatobi’s House Reef is a cornucopia of marine life and snorkelers can wade in directly from the beach or enter from the jetty ladder. The seagrass shallows are refuge to species such as filefish, coconut octopus and halimeda ghost pipefish, while areas surrounding the various coral heads host numerous colorful juveniles, cuttlefish, crocodilefish, moral eels, juvenile green and hawksbill turtles and more. Additionally, at least seven species of anemonefish have been counted in the area surrounding the jetty and Jetty Bar! The dramatic drop off where the House Reef wall begins offers glimpses out into the blue and down the wall – turtles, bumphead parrotfish, rays, mild-mannered triggerfish, boxfish, pufferfish and midnight snapper can be seen among many other species. The House Reef is monitored by the resort’s shored-based staff, who also have access to a taxi boat if needed. Additionally, snorkelers can engage a Private Snorkel Guide to assist with snorkeling skills, marine life encounters and anything else to help you get the most from your snorkeling sorties.
